 | Motov8, in Gregory’s Mill Street, Worcester, is a registered charity that works with young people to promote re-engagement with education and reduce social exclusion.
The Motov8 Bicycle Re-use Project has been running for three years, working with Worcestershire County Council’s waste prevention team to encourage the public to re-use and prevent waste. Since the scheme started, more than 2000 bikes have been recycled by the scheme, many of which have been refurbished and sold.
With many more people looking to save money on transport costs, and keep fit, the stock of adult bikes is now dwindling and fresh supplies are needed. Donated bikes are refurbished by the team and offered for resale. All proceeds are used to support the work of the charity. Mark Badger, director of Motov8, said: “The bicycle re-use project is now well-established and we have seen a huge increase in interest from members of the public wanting to try cycling, or those rediscovering it after a break. Our team of young people are extremely keen to continue providing such a valuable service and we hope that more people can help by donating any unwanted adult bicycles.”
Councillor Anthony Blagg, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for waste and sustainability, said: “Through our partnership with Motov8 and other community organisations across the county, we continue to encourage residents to re-use unwanted items, and so reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Re-use projects provide so many positive benefits for everyone involved.”
Anyone with a bike to donate can take it to Motov8’s workshops in Gregory Mill Street, Worcester or call the charity on 01905 619068.
