Look at the car we’ve rebuilt

Worcester Evening News Wednesday 22nd October 2008

PUPILS at Christopher Whitehead Language College in Worcester have rebuilt a car as part of a vocational course.

Eleven teenage boys were involved in the project with Worcester charity Motov8 to encourage young people to gain work-based skills

They stripped the car down to its shell and then rebuilt it, before taking it to Throckmorton for a test drive. Beth Page, diverse curriculum co-ordinator at the school, said: “It was a great experience for the lads and taught them a number of new skills.

“They all seemed to enjoy taking part in the project.”

Mike Price, motor vehicle teacher and unit manager at Motov8, said the group had excelled in the task.

“They did a fantastic job,” he said. “They even put in about 10 or 11 hours of their own time to get the car finished. I think they all found it very useful and worthwhile.”

He added: “A project such as this is great for team building, and engaging the kids.”

Fourteen-year-old Roddy McDonald said the best part of the project was driving the car at the end. “It was really good to actually drive it after we had rebuilt it,” he said.
